quick thought or two on convention prints...

starting to get stuff together to pack up for heroescon next week... and got me thinking about artists selling prints of licensed characters (and sometimes with HUGE displays covered with prints) ... me, i've decided that's not my bag. heck, if dc , marvel or anybody else, for that matter, wanted me to draw their characters, they'd hire me - and sometimes, they do... and if they wanted to sell prints, they would... it's their property, their choice... commissions and one offs, that's a different beast.

sure i 'd probably sell a LOT more marvel prints than i do of the perhapanauts or kyrra... but i'm okay with that.

so, speaking of ... KYRRA chapter 4 should be available in the next week or so (i'l llet you know)... and PERHAPANAUTS - DANGER DOWN UNDER 5 is out NEXT WEEK!

the doctor.

so, after all those "legion" sketches (there's another batch in the queue!), i got myself on a "doctor who" kick (which started with a commissioned sketch of the current doctor... and snowballed)

a few are still available for sale on the website.

as far as work, plenty more marvel superheroes magazine covers to post down the road, wrapping up letter on haps "danger down under 5" (out in june), more haps lost covers, chapter 4 of kyrra is underway...

by the hoary hosts of hoggoth!

as i'm wrapping up these last few perhapanauts pages for issue 5 of "danger down under"- and more kyrra - decided it was time to take on some new commissions after a long break...

first up, dr. strange!

(if you've been itching for a commission, now's the (limited) time... drop a line to bob@comicarthouse.com )

another marvel magazine cover in progress...

with trying to wrap up issue 5 of "danger down under!" and keep kyrra moving along, it's been a while since my last update...

here's a cover for MSH 22 from scribbly sketch to finish (with killer colors by benny fuentes!)

(shameless plug - this cover - and many more - are for sale in the new webstore...)

sadly, i won't be out in seattle for emerald city comic con - next up, boston comic con in april.

kyrra!

so, while i've been mighty busy with this latest PERHAPANAUTS mini series (DANGER DOWN UNDER! issues 1-3 are out now in print and digitally thru comixology , issue 4 is due in february and concluding with issue 5 in april!) and the MARVEL SUPER HEROES magazine covers i've been posting, i'm also hard at work on my new "digital first" venture KYRRA, ALIEN JUNGLE GIRL with my pals rich and lawrence over at artist alley comics. with any luck, we'll get on track with the last 6 ten page chapters in 2013 (sold drm free as pdfs you can read on any computer or tablet for only $0.99... chapters 1 and 2 are up now!) and collect'm all in print down the road, if there's interest...

comics are a changing landscape, and we're testing the digital waters... 'cause honestly, if your book doesn't have an AVENGERS, BAT, or X in the title, it's tough (but not impossible) to make a go in print...

we'll see... hope you're along for the ride!

a marvel superheroes 20 cover... start to finish

keeping up with my effort to keep posting here on the blog more often... here's another cover, start to finish (from sketches to approved pencils, inks and kick ass colors by john rauch!)

with these covers, i need to leave plenty of "dead" space for captions, title, upc codes, etc... and the final art is usually separated into layers, so creative giant (the guys who tirelessly put these magazines together every month) can shift art where needed...

besides these covers, i'm still working steady on THE PERHAPANAUTS - DANGER DOWN UNDER! (issue 3 hits stands and comixology next week) and KYRRA (over at artist alley... chapter 2 should finally be up by next week, and chapter 3 is well under way)

marvel superheroes 19 cover... start to finish

so, in my attempt to keep this blog a bit more up to date (and post the stuff i show on Facebook as well), here's an alternate cover for for MARVEL SUPERHEROES 19 (an international magazine i've been lucky enough to do covers for over the last year or so) from sketches through pencils to inks then colors (by john rauch, who's killing it on "invincible" these days!)

i'll be getting a gallery of this magazine art together at some point (as well as adding the covers in the slowly building "art for sale "section here on the site... http://www.craigrousseau.com/sketches-for-sale!,58.html)

(in the drawing board queue now-  haps - danger down under 4, kyrra chapter 3, cover for MSH 24... and a few other things)

avengers: earth's mightiest sample...

alrighty, i'm gonna make an effort to update here as well as facebook (and REALLY need to update the galleries... months of stuff i haven't posted here.. d'oh.)

here's a quick sample sketch i did for "avengers: earth mightiest heroes" comic story from earlier this year (had fun with the sketch, but had to rush the story - and it shows in the finished art - in issue 6, btw...)

-c

it's algebraic!

... figured it was time for even a quick update... here's the exclusive cover i did for cards, comics and collectibles in maryland.

(does anybody still come here for art... or have you found my updates on Facebook?)

future boy

another (as always) GREAT heroescon show in charlotte this year... besides getting to promote the next upcoming arc of the 'haps starting in OCTOBER, we also had a preview book of short stories from our new online venture ARTIST ALLEY COMICS (available free for download at the site)...

i'll blog more about AAC (and more haps ) real soon when i can get up for air...

plenty to do these days (more marvel magazine covers, 'haps, kyrra, more)... so little time (school's OUT for the summer) ... soooooo, a quick post with a pre-show commission i managed to get done - legion's braniac.

we'll talk tv, movies, music and more real soon, honest...

gallery neglect...

so, realizing it's been AGES since i've really updated any part on the website (or the website, for that matter)... gotta get better about it (i've been adding stuff on Facebook and not getting it onto the blog or in a gallery)...

check out the gallery for a new section about marvel magazine art (the first issue just hit shelves last week... and it's been a blast doing some covers and hero profiles and more...)

plenty to post about in the very near future - disney marvel storybooks, the new perhapanauts arc coming up, and the new digital venture at artist alley comics... tv, music, comics, and how much the avengers rocked!

but now, back to work.

iron man baddies!

so, besides all the work i've been doing for disney press' marvel books and my creator owned stuff, i've been lucky enough to do some fun marvel "hero profile" pages for a marvel magazine (which, sadly,  is currently only available overseas - sad because it'd be perfect for the boy and his friends)... besides a full page splash illo, each profile has some villain profiles... and drawing them is as much fun as drawing the main figure... first up, iron man bad guys (and a few other inset images from the spread)... i'll post the other art during the week.

(after the the 4 issue iron man: armor wars mini, the iron man origin storybook, 2 smaller storybooks out later this years and dozens of toolkit drawings, i'm getting pretty comfortable with ol' shell head... )

world's future finest

always have a blast drawing terry (and clark)... another pmc sketch down!

Monday, January 23, 2012

another PMC sketch!

wow, closing on two months without a post?! whew...

even though there's not much to show here, i've been PLENTY busy with work on disney/marvel storybook material, continuing work for some fun marvel magazines (available only overseas, sadly), a custom comic (which i should be able to talk about soon, i imagine) and more...

BUT i did manage to get another "thank you!" sketch done... (and with any luck, the rest in the next week or so)...

-c (managing to get through plenty of "doctor who" on netflix and couldn't be happier that "justified" is back on fx)

elementary, watson - it's another pmc thank you

title says it all... (at this rate, i'll have my "thank you sketches" done by the next PMC...d'oh!)

kida!

realized i hadn't posted this one from the baltimore con... my pal robert (on the sage advice of his niece) has got a sketch theme of disney princesses... and one of the more obscure choices he presented me with was from "atlantis" and i couldn't say no! (i've already told him jane from "tarzan" is next - his niece added her to the list since she's with tarzan, king of the jungle, so it's kinda like being a princess, right?)

hope everybody had a swell halloween (and now, back to work!)

first of the pmc sketches

work's crazy busy, so it's another quick one...

finally getting a chance to get to the "thank you" sketches for the PMC donations (i haven't forgotten, honest!)...

invincible iron man!

so, since the book is coming out next week (check the amazon link), i figure it's safe to talk about what's been keeping me soooo busy these last few months... marvel storybooks for disney press!

disney press has gotten into the marvel superhero storybook business with its very own "marvel press" imprint... the first book i worked on was the 48 page hardcover "the invincible iron man: an origin story" written by rich thomas with art by me and hi-fi design. all the artwork i've done has been pencil art, digitally painted by the fine folks at hi-fi design... mighty fun stuff i'm glad to be a part of (and it's stuff i know i can share with my kids and their classmates and friends)...

i'm sure i'll have more to post soon... but in the meantime, here's iron man!

if you're at the NY comic con next week, i'll be at the disney press panel sunday at noon (and signing at the booth later on sunday)... stop by and say "hey!")
